White Fused Alumina Powder for Wear-Resistant Coatings

White Fused Alumina Powder for Wear-Resistant Coatings

1. Product Overview

White fused alumina powder is a high-purity synthetic abrasive and functional filler, produced by the high-temperature smelting and purification of bauxite in an electric arc furnace. It is a core raw material for wear-resistant coatings, widely used in thermal spraying, brush coating, spray coating and other coating processes to enhance the surface performance of metal, ceramic and composite substrates.

2. Core Physical & Chemical Properties

3. Key Advantages for Wear-Resistant Coatings

  • Superior Wear Resistance: The high hardness and high toughness of white fused alumina powder effectively resist abrasive wear, adhesive wear and impact wear, extending the service life of coated components.
  • Excellent Compatibility: It can be evenly mixed with organic binders (epoxy, polyurethane) and inorganic binders (ceramic, silicate), adapting to various coating formulas.
  • Dense Coating Structure: Uniform particle size ensures tight packing, forming a compact coating film with low porosity, which isolates the substrate from external corrosive media.
  • Thermal Stability: With a high melting point (≈2050℃), the powder maintains structural stability at high temperatures, making it suitable for high-temperature wear-resistant coatings.
  • Cost-Effective: Compared with other high-hardness abrasives (such as cubic boron nitride), it has a reasonable price and excellent performance, meeting the needs of large-scale industrial production.

4. Application Scope

  • Mechanical Manufacturing: Wear-resistant coatings for gears, shafts, bearings, guide rails and other mechanical parts;
  • Industrial Equipment: Conveyor belts, hoppers, pipes and mining machinery components to prevent wear and corrosion;
  • Automotive & Aerospace: Coating treatment of engine parts, brake components and high-wear structural parts;
  • Construction & Hardware: Anti-wear coatings for metal furniture, building hardware and floor protection layers;
  • Thermal Spraying: Raw material for plasma spraying, flame spraying of wear-resistant ceramic coatings.

5. Application Parameters & Operation Tips

  • Coating Processes: Suitable for dry mixing, wet mixing, thermal spraying, electrostatic spraying and other processes;
  • Mixing Ratio: Adjust the addition amount (10%-70% by weight) according to the wear resistance requirements of the coating;
  • Dispersion Requirement: Add dispersants during mixing to avoid agglomeration of white fused alumina powder, ensuring uniform distribution in the coating;
  • Post-Treatment: After coating, cure at room temperature or high temperature according to the binder type to improve the bonding strength between the coating and the substrate.
