Applications of White Fused Alumina in Alumina Ceramics?

The main component of white fused alumina is α-Al₂O₃, with a purity generally above 99%. Its crystal form and thermal expansion coefficient are highly consistent with those of alumina ceramic matrices. Featuring low impurity content, high hardness and excellent chemical stability, it serves as a core raw material and supporting consumable for alumina ceramic manufacturing. Its applications fall into three major categories: bulk filling for ceramic bodies, functional modification, and auxiliary use across production procedures.

I. Core Aggregate / Base Material for Ceramic Bodies (Primary Application)

1. Wear-Resistant Structural Alumina Ceramic Parts

Applicable products: wear-resistant liners, ceramic plungers, valve cores, pipeline linings, shot blasting machine components, textile ceramic yarn guides

Selection logic: Coarse-grade white fused alumina (80#–320#) acts as the main skeletal aggregate, while fine-grade white fused alumina micropowder (600#–1500#) fills interparticle voids to improve the packing density of green bodies.

Functions: Enhance the flexural strength, wear resistance and impact resistance of finished products, and deliver stable dimensional performance under high temperatures for heavy-duty abrasive working conditions. Low-iron formulations prevent black spot defects on finished ceramics.

2. Porous / Filter-Type Alumina Ceramics

Applicable products: ceramic filter plates, industrial ceramic filter tubes, porous ceramics for wastewater / molten material filtration, catalyst carriers

Selection logic: White fused alumina micropowder in grades 400#, 500#, 600#, 700# and 800# forms the main skeleton, and is blended with finer powder to adjust pore size and porosity.

Functions: Produce uniform pore structures during forming with stable sintering shrinkage and outstanding acid & alkali corrosion resistance, suitable for filtration scenarios including metallurgical molten aluminum treatment, chemical waste liquid purification and photovoltaic slurry separation.

3. Electronic Insulation Alumina Ceramics

Applicable products: ceramic insulating bases, power device ceramic pedestals, small-circuit insulating components

Selection logic:High‑purity low‑sodium white fused alumina micropowder (1000# & finer) is the primary raw material, with tight Na₂O and Fe₂O₃ impurity control.

Functions:It delivers stable insulation and thermal conductivity, preventing impurity‑induced leakage and sinter blistering in small/medium‑power electronic components. High‑precision substrates mainly use submicron high‑purity alumina powder; coarse white fused alumina is added only for minor gradation tuning

4. Heat-Resistant Kiln Furniture / High-Temperature Ceramic Components

Applicable products: ceramic setter plates, saggers, high-temperature thermocouple protection tubes

Functions: Match the thermal expansion coefficient of the base material to deliver superior thermal shock resistance, resisting cracking during repeated heating and cooling cycles and enduring direct open-flame high-temperature exposure.

II. Functional Modification Additives (Dosing as Auxiliary Ingredients)

Glaze Reinforcing Filler

Fine-grade white fused alumina micropowder is blended into glazes for alumina ceramic surface coating to increase glaze hardness, scratch resistance and acid & alkali resistance, preventing glaze wear and peeling during long-term service while retaining a high surface whiteness.
